About Me

My name is Carter Baumgard and I am a Media Design student at Southeast Technical College. In my senior year of high school, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do after I graduated. Searching and searching for different colleges and degrees I couldn’t make up my mind. I am very creative and always loved to draw and play instruments. There was a class at my high school called Commercial Art. I took this class in the 1st semester of my senior year and I fell in love. We used Photoshop to explore and create graphic design and art basics. After taking this class I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

I graduated from Norfolk Senior High in Norfolk, Nebraska. Before moving to Norfolk, I used to live in Sioux Falls. My father graduated from Southeast Tech in 2015 as a Bio Med major. This was a heavy influence on me when choosing where to go to college. I knew I wanted to go for Graphic Design, but I didn’t know where. Knowing that a 2-year school would be best for me, I chose a place that I already knew a lot about, Southeast Technical College. I chose Southeast Tech so I could be close to family and friends, while also being able to get my associate’s degree.

I am now in my 2nd and final year of my Media Design degree. I currently have an internship at Malloy Electric where I am the only graphic designer on the team. But I very much enjoy my job, it has taught me a lot about what it could be like to have a full-time career in graphic design. My coworkers are great too, they are very supportive and I believe there could be a full-time position for me after I graduate. I am very grateful and have high hopes for what’s to come this spring.
